In this class you will learn the theory and treatment of sports injuries and orthopedic conditions. The three stages of injury are discussed in detail, using a multi-modality approach to treatment and healing that gets immediate and clinically effective results. Liniments, poultices and plasters (gao), herbal soaks, and pre-made internal formulas will be discussed in detail, and you will learn how to combine these therapies with acupuncture, tui na, guasha and cupping. You will learn when each type of therapy is appropriate, and how to use each therapeutic modality. The emphasis of this class is on the acquisition of clinical skills that can immediately be put into practice.

Learning Objectives

  • Students will understand the differences in the theory and practice of treating injuries in Traditional Eastern and modern Western medicine.
  • Students will be able to list and detail the Three Stages of Injury and healing for soft tissue injuries.
  • Students will be able to identify and apply external herbal therapies such as liniments, plasters and poultices (gao), herbal soaks, ointments and powders.

He has taught Tui Na massage, bonesetting, acupuncture and Gong Fu Sports Medicine to thousands of practitioners in the US, Canada and Europe. Tom has written numerous books on Chinese medicine, Daoist meditation and the martial arts.
