First off I wanted to say a big THANK YOU to Yvonne Farrell and Susan Erlich for your awesome webinars on the 8 extras! I started your treatment strategies and immediately one of my infertility patients got pregnant!!! One of my pregnant patients asked me about drinking kombucha during pregnancy. I have been reading conflicting opinions about kombucha during pregnancy, and while each patient may react differently, I was curious to your overall thoughts on the subject. (This patient in particular has a history of leaky gut syndrome and hypothyroidism - Spleen deficiency w/ damp accumulation & Kidney Yang deficiency.) Thanks again!
Kombucha safe during pregnancy?
Hi, the following response is from Laura Erlich:
Generally speaking, Kombucha is safe for pregnant women who are used to drinking it already, from a good home brewed source that is carefully prepared. Commercial kombucha preparations are not what they're cracked up to be, and are best avoided. Rarely, someone will have a bad reaction to kombucha when drinking it for the first time, which is why it's best not to 'try' it for the first time while pregnant. Here is a blog post that goes into a lot of detail on kombucha during pregnancy: http://www.kombuchakamp.com/2011/06/kombucha-tea-pregnancy-safety-probio....
in terms of the leaky gut/ SP QI issues, probiotic rich foods are obviously a good idea. Culture veggies and kefir can offer many of the same benefits as kombucha as well.
I hope that helps!
