According to the US Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women’s Health Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) affects about 1 in 15 women. During this course practitioners will learn how to manage these patients effectively using a proven integrative approach of Chinese herbal medicine, nutrition, basic functional medicine and use of key supplements. A brief mention on Kiiko style acupuncture is included but since hers is primarily a palpatory style only a few points will be highlighted. Nutritional research from Weston A. Price will be discussed and further refined to optimize results for these women. Practitioners will learn how to detect and address possible complicating factors such as auto-immune patterns which can occur more frequently in this patient population.
Case histories will demonstrate how an integrative, natural approach has been used to successfully treat PCOS patients. We will spend time discussing the clinical pearls how to manage these patients, how to get them to modify their diets, how to assess and reassess them, and how to guide them through ART if they still need it.
At the end of this course and after completion of the worksheet, quiz and reading material students will be able to identify metabolic syndrome and PCOS patterns, gain deeper understanding of western physiology, nutrition, and treatment using Chinese herbs.
