This online course is the introductory training module required by all CEFP members. The Clinical Excellence in Fertility Program (CEFP) is a professional community of highly-skilled traditional Chinese medicine practitioners who specialize in helping couples overcome the diagnosis of infertility. These acupuncturists and herbalists--some of whom are also trained as naturopathic physicians, embrologists, RNs, nutritionists, massage therapists, and in other healing modalities--follow The Fertile Soul program in their own lives and healing as well as in their approach to patient care. Course Description:

This course will provide a deep understanding of infertility according to Chinese medicine. We will deeply examine the zangfu patterns of imbalance presenting as infertility, and the associated Western medicine correlates. We will investigate the theory, the mechanisms of disease, and treatment according to both Chinese medicine and Western medicine in a case-based format when possible, paying special attention to herbal medicine, acupuncture, massage, TCM nutrition, and breathing techniques. We will also engage in a detailed explanation of the specifics of Western reproductive procedural medicine, including labs, protocols, glossary, and integrative treatment strategies. Haung-Lao classic teachings as well as other great classical works inform much of the foundation of this workshop. Topics to be covered include: foundations of gynecology and reproductive medicine including anatomy, physiology, and pathology, and issues such as premature ovarian failure, PCOS, reproductive immunology, endometriosis, and implantation issues.

Randine Lewis

Dr. Randine Lewis began her studies in conventional Western medicine before moving on to traditional Chinese medicine. She received an M.S. in Oriental medicine from the American College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and interned at the Dalian Hospital of traditional Chinese medicine in Dalian, China, before earning a Ph.D. in alternative medicine from the Indian Board of Alternative Medicines in India. She lives in Asheville, North Carolina, with her husband, three children, and their dogs, cats, rats, iguana, and fish.
