This online course will present a comprehensive and detailed approach to the treatment of women during pregnancy.  Disorders and problems of pregnancy and labour will be considered from the viewpoint of both Western and Chinese medicine. The emphasis will be on treatment strategies that have been proven through extensive clinical practice, backed up by case examples. At the end of this course participants will feel confident and competent to treat women at all stages of pregnancy.

This course covers acupuncture for selected conditions with a focus on those most relevant to clinical practice; nausea during pregnancy, miscarriage, anaemia, pregnancy induced hypertension, breech and posterior positions, heartburn, vulval varicosities, musculoskeletal conditions (rib pain, lower back pain, pain of the symphysis pubis, neck pain), induction. With a background in neonatal intensive care nursing Debra entered into the study of Traditional Chinese Medicine in London, graduating in 1989 from the British College of Acupuncture.

Returning to New Zealand she started a private practice promoting acupuncture for women’s health issues, with a focus on teaching support people acupressure techniques that could be used for pain relief in labour.
